Up at 5:30am, tent went down at 6:00am.  Nice and warm even at this time.  Starts to get hot around 7:00am though and with no shade need to cover up.  Routine not yet sorted but need to eat, tape feet, put on sun cream, pack and fill camelbak.

Only had a small breakfast that would tell later on in the day!

Pretty much ran all of first section although heat was a bit of a shock to the system.  Glad to see the first CP to empty out sand from shoes.  Early signs not good on shoes i.e. too much sand getting in.  Looks like the mini gaiters/shoe combination not such a good idea afterall.

Water going down OK although like drinking warm lemon tea.  GO bars not too easy to eat.  Filling up camelbak not too difficult although pre-packed sachets of electrolyte would have been a lot easier than resealable plastic bags.

Found second half of day hard going, not enough food taken in for breakfast, sand storm to also contend with.  Heart rate (HR) higher than expected for the speed; expected around 135 bpm but running at 155 bpm so needed to slow down.

Also ran out of water within site of CP3 so need to keep a close eye on this.

Got back to bivouac (camp site) OK but hungry.  Will need two meals per day based on this performance.  Biltong went down very well.

Routine getting in place:  Die at finish line, collect water (3 x 1.5l bottles), look for tent (why is it so far away), collapse into tent, make Rego drink, drink this slowly and recover, turn back into a human being, talk to any tent mates that are back, start to chill out and enjoy!

Easily ate my two meals (noodles then freeze dried) plus all other bits.

Managed to get first blister already so will need to tape feet better for next day.

As expected and told about, people were discarding food all over the place.  I reckon that the Brits alone got rid of enough energy bars/powders to keep a local running club in supply for at least a year.  So, if by any chance you were short of any energy supplies, you would have plenty of options, and someone else will have carried them for you to the first bivi.
